Editorial Standards & Corrections

SWC exists to make preparedness easier to understand. Our process favors calm language, practical household actions, clear limitations, and primary sources.

Effective July 26, 2026. This policy will be updated as SWC’s publishing and review process grows.

What SWC publishes

Surviving What’s Coming publishes general educational information for everyday households. Articles, guides, checklists, and planning tools are written for beginners and focus on realistic steps rather than fear, sensational claims, or expensive gear lists.

Who writes the content

Coach Dex is the founder and author behind SWC. His role, background, and published-book history are described on the About page. SWC does not present personal experience as a substitute for current official instructions or individualized professional advice.

Source priority

Safety-sensitive claims should be supported by the most direct and authoritative source reasonably available. SWC prioritizes:

Local authorities

Local emergency management, public safety, utilities, health departments, and official alerts take priority during an active event.

Federal public agencies

FEMA, Ready.gov, the National Weather Service, CDC, and other responsible government agencies support evergreen safety guidance.

Qualified technical sources

Manufacturer instructions, equipment suppliers, and appropriately qualified professionals are used when a topic requires product, medical-device, structural, or technical detail.

Social posts, forums, news coverage, and community discussions may help identify questions people are asking. They are not treated as final authority for safety instructions.

Review and update process

Before a safety-focused article is published or marked as reviewed, SWC checks its scope, supporting primary source, action language, emergency limitations, and considerations for children, older adults, caregivers, pets, disabilities, medication, or powered medical equipment when relevant.

Article pages display publication and source-review dates.
Evergreen safety content is reviewed when official guidance changes and on a recurring schedule.
Time-sensitive content is checked more frequently and should include concrete dates.
Broken official links, unclear wording, and outdated instructions are corrected when found.

Corrections

If you believe an SWC page contains an error, outdated source, accessibility problem, or unclear safety statement, email survivingwhatscoming@gmail.com. Include the page link and the specific passage. Material corrections will be made as promptly as practical, with the page’s review date updated when appropriate.

Commercial relationships

If SWC publishes sponsored content, receives a product for review, or uses an affiliate relationship, that relationship should be disclosed clearly near the relevant content. Payment or product access does not replace the sourcing and safety-review process.

Important limits

SWC is not monitored for emergency response and does not provide individualized medical, legal, financial, engineering, or emergency-management advice. During an active emergency, follow 911, local public-safety and emergency-management officials, utility providers, the National Weather Service, FEMA, and other appropriate authorities.
